Summer Housing 2022 Resident Advisor
Position Description


The Summer Resident Advisor position works with the Clairmont Summer Residents. Summer
RAs serve as a facilitator of community development, responder, administrator, role model, and
team member for the residents of Summer Housing at Clairmont. The Summer RA provides
programmatic and logistical support to Clairmont Summer initiatives and works
collaboratively with the Clairmont Summer Team to ensure that all move-in and move-out
procedures, and the overall residential experience for residents goes efficiently. The Summer RA
will assist with staffing the Clairmont Service Front Desk as well. The Summer RA is expected to
treat other students, supervisors, and fellow employees with integrity, courtesy, and respect. All
Summer Resident Advisor summer travel plans must be pre-approved by the Complex Director.
We are hiring fourteen (14) RA staff members this Summer.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:
• Must be able to commit to the entire summer dates of employment, including the In-Service
that occurs during the Spring semester.
• Must have served at least one year in a role with Office of Residence, Sorority and Fraternity
Life, Emory Housing or as an Oxford RA for at least one year.


Preferred Experience:
• Served one year in an On-Call capacity at the Atlanta Emory Campus.

Responssibilities


Community Development:
• Be knowledgeable about university resources to help students find their niche in the wider
campus community.
• Be visible, regularly available, and accessible to address residents’ needs or concerns.
• Perform as a mediator in conflicts among residents and staff.
• Work cooperatively with residents to create a community of care that displays integrity
and respect for the rights and privacy of others and promotes consideration of individual needs
in a group living environment.
• Assess students’ developmental needs and provide appropriate referrals to campus resources.
• Educate residents about Residence Life and university policies.
• Required to create programs as assigned.

Team Member:
• Be available to attend weekly or bi-weekly meetings.
• Meet regularly with my supervisor.

On-Call Responsibilities:
• Serve on call for a full week for URC, Clairmont Tower, and/or CRC – Sunday to Sunday for
all Clairmont Summer Residents.  (Begins on May 9th)
• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – 8PM-8AM
• Friday-Saturday: 24hours (8pm Friday – 8PM Sunday)
• Sunday: (8pm – 8am)


Administrator:
• Act with integrity by preserving the confidentiality of personal information about students
obtained in the course of employment and responsible treatment of all information to which
access is given (e.g., rosters, keys, student ID cards, etc.).
• Check and respond to emails and other communications daily.
• Complete and submit all paperwork as assigned by the supervisor in a timely manner.
• Using the Sling app, sign up for on-call shifts, assume scheduled on-call duty responsibility at
night, on weekends, and/or during break periods.
• Respond appropriately to students in crisis.
• Be responsible for thorough and accurate communication and documentation of all violations
of Residence Life policies, the Undergraduate Code of Conduct


Role Model:
• Convey a positive attitude towards the Summer RA position and its duties and
responsibilities.
• Demonstrate ethical leadership by developing a space for students to be successful in their
personal, academic, and professional pursuits.
• Act as a positive role model for both fellow staff members and residents by consistently and
reliably acting with honor, humility, and helpfulness and by not participating in questionable
and unethical behavior. This includes modeling behaviors that do not violate the
Undergraduate Code of Conduct, and any other University or department policies.
• Counsel residents regarding personal, academic, and ethical concerns.


Remuneration (Compensation includes)


• Summer Resident Advisors will receive a furnished, private bedroom in the Clairmont URC,
Clairmont Tower, or CRC apartment for the duration of their employment. You must live in
this room and be available for on-call duties and other responsibilities. (Summer Staff may
have another staff suitemate)
• Summer RAs will be paid a total of $1950 for the duration of the summer (paid in three
monthly increments of $650/per month).
• Each staff room will be furnished like any other student with typical furnishings. All
furnishings are to be used properly according to Residence Life policies.


Summer School & Housing Timeline


Maymester:
• Check-In: 8am Monday May 9, 2022

Summer Session 1:  
• Summer Session 1 Check In: 8am Thursday May 12, 2022  
• Classes Begin: Friday May 13, 2022.
• Summer Session 1 Ends: Friday June 24, 2022
• Summer Session 1 Check-Out: Saturday June 25, 2022
Transition:
Those not attending Summer Session 1 must vacate the rooms by 12PM on Saturday, June 25,
2022.   Those attending Summer Session 1 & 2 simply remain in their first session room for the
second session unless otherwise assigned.
Summer Session 2:  
• Summer Session 2 Check In: 12pm Sunday, June 26, 2022.  
• Classes Begin: Monday, June 27, 2022
• Summer Session 2 Ends: Saturday, August 05, 2021
• Summer Session 2 Check-Out: Sunday, August 06, 2022

Clairmont Campus housing will close at 12 noon on Sunday, August 06, 2022. Residents must
vacate the rooms by 12PM at noon.
