2026 Summer Resident Advisor

The Summer Resident Advisor position works with the Clairmont Summer Residents. Summer RAs are a facilitator of community development, responder, administrator, role model, and team member for residents of Summer Housing at Clairmont. Providing programmatic and logistical support to Clairmont Summer initiatives, the Summer RA works collaboratively with the Clairmont Summer Team to ensure the efficiency of all move-in and move-out procedures, as well as the overall residential experience for residents. They will also help staff at the Clairmont Service Center Front Desk. The Summer RA is expected to treat other students, supervisors, and fellow employees with integrity, courtesy, and respect. All Summer Resident Advisor summer travel plans must be pre-approved by the Complex Director. We are hiring one (1) Senior Resident Advisor and eleven (11) RA staff members this Summer.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  

Must commit to the entire summer employment dates, including training and in-service during the Spring semester. This includes working weekend and weekday desk shifts at the Clairmont Service Center.

To apply for the summer SRA role, you must have at least one year of experience as an RA on the Atlanta/Clairmont campus. 

Preferred Experience:

Served one year in an On-Call capacity at the Atlanta/Clairmont Emory Campus or Oxford Emory Campus. 

Responsibilities

Community Development

Be knowledgeable about university resources to help students find their niche in the wider campus community. 

Be visible, regularly available, and accessible to address residents’ needs or concerns. 

Perform as a mediator in conflicts among residents and staff. 

Work cooperatively with residents to create a community of care that displays integrity and respect for the rights and privacy of others and promotes consideration of individual needs in a group living environment. 

Assess students’ developmental needs and provide appropriate referrals to campus resources. 

Educate residents about Residence Life and University policies. 

Required to create one program per month. 

Team Member

Be available to attend bi-weekly meetings. 

Meet regularly with supervisor. 

On-Call Responsibilities

Serve on call for a full week for URC, Clairmont Tower, and/or CRC– Sunday to Sunday for all Clairmont Summer Residents. 

On-call Hours: 

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – 8PM-8AM 

Friday-Saturday: 24hours (8pm Friday – 8PM Sunday)  

Sunday: (8pm – 8am) 

Administrator

Act with integrity by preserving the confidentiality of personal information about students obtained in the course of employment and responsible treatment of all information to which access is given (e.g., rosters, keys, student ID cards, etc.).

Check and respond to emails/Microsoft Teams and other communications daily.

Complete and submit all paperwork as assigned by the supervisor in a timely manner.

Using Sling Scheduling app, sign up for on-call shifts, assume scheduled on-call duty responsibility at night, on weekends, and/or during break periods.

Respond appropriately to students in crisis.

Be responsible for thorough and accurate communication and documentation of all violations of Residence Life policies, the Undergraduate Code of Conduct and the Emory Community Compact.  

Role Model

Convey a positive attitude towards the Summer RA position and its duties and responsibilities. 

Demonstrate ethical leadership by developing a space for students to be successful in their personal, academic, and professional pursuits. 

Act as a positive role model for both fellow staff members and residents by consistently and reliably acting with honor, humility, and helpfulness and by not participating in questionable and unethical behavior. This includes modeling behaviors that do not violate the Undergraduate Code of Conduct, and any other University or department policies. 

Counsel residents regarding personal, academic, and ethical concerns. 

Additional Summer SRA Responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities of all summer RAs, the summer SRA will: 

Coordinate on-call scheduling and maintain an on-call calendar accessible to student staff and professional staff on-call teams. 

Assist in the planning and implementation of team development and team bonding opportunities for summer staff. 

Advise and mentor summer RAs in planning and hosting events to engage students living on the Clairmont Campus over the summer. 

Serve as the primary contact for the summer staff in the summer Complex Director’s absence. 

Remuneration (Compensation includes)

Summer Resident Advisors will receive a furnished, private bedroom in the Clairmont URC, Clairmont Tower, or CRC apartment for the duration of their employment. You must live in this room and be available for on-call duties and other responsibilities. (Summer Staff may have another staff suitemate) 

Summer RAs will be paid a total of $1950 for the duration of the summer (paid in three monthly increments of $650). 

Summer SRA will be paid a total of $2450 for the duration of the summer (paid in three monthly increments of ~$816). 

Each staff room will be furnished like any other student with typical furnishings. All furnishings are to be used properly in accordance with Residence Life policies.
