SAAC Welcome Center Assistant

SAAC Welcome Center Assistants report directly to the SAAC Graduate Assistant and perform a variety of duties that assist in the operation of the SAAC. This position is crucial to the day-to-day operations of the SAAC and will challenge the abilities of those chosen, while offering them valuable skills in communication, management, and organization.

Welcome Center Assistant hours are tentatively Monday through Friday, 6:45am to 12:15am; Saturday and Sunday, 7:45 am to 12:15am. Although weekly schedules will vary, Welcome Cetner Assistants are expected to work approximately 8-12 hours per week. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

Customer Service:

  • First responder to answering patron questions.
  • Conduct all interactions prorfessionally.
  • Serve as a public relations and resource person to members of groups using the building and facilities. 
    • Act as a communication liaison between SAAC members and SAAC professional staff.
    • Provide tours for prospective members.
    • Be helpful, friendly, and willing to assist SAAC members in any way possible.
  • Sell memberships, guest passes, 14-visit guest passes, group fitness passes, merchandise, drinks, stamps, and/or lockers.
  • Take reservations for study rooms and tennis courts on a daily basis.
  • Sign out equipment to patrons.
  • Conducts group fitness class check-in responsibilities.

Building Management and Policy:

  • Maintain security of the building including (but not limited to) the EmoryCard swipe system used to admit members to the membership area of the facility.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of the entire facility to ensure safety and security of members as well as greet members, enforce policies, monitor use of facilities, count occupancy and report any defects or damages to equipment or facilities including necessary routine repairs.
  • Open and close the building.
  • Verify the set up of various audio-visual equipment and catering requests in meeting rooms and locations throughout the building and grounds as well as physically arranging rooms if necessary.
  • Set up badminton and volleyball equipment in the gym as requested. 
  • Assist in opening and closing out the cash register each day, preparing individual shift reports and deposits for the cash register, monitoring and replacing change, and monitoring sales of merchandise for each shift.
  • Assist the professional staff with all merchandise sales and inventory.
  • Serve as a first responder to emergencies and contact appropriate agencies to assist.
  • Complete other duties as assisgned.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be an Emory student in good academic standing and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Second year or later at the time of employment.
  • Must be able to commit to the entire summer and academic year for dates of employment.
  • Must possess a current, valid CPR training certificate. (You can take this class on your own or we will arrange for one at the beginning of the summer and fall.)
  • Must be able to demonstrate attributes of both a team player and a leader.
  • Must possess an excellent customer service orientation.
  • Must be able to serve as a resource for and a positive representative of Emory University.

 

Other Requirements

  • Attend mandatory staff meetings to discuss upcoming events, news, and concerns.
  • All Welcome Center Assistants must reside locally and be available to work until the residence halls close each semester unless they have written permission from the SAAC Director at least two weeks in advance of the end of said semester.
  • Attendance at training events is mandatory unless your absence is approved in advance by professional staff.

 

Employment Dates

The SAAC is currently hiring Welcome Center Assistants for Summer 2016/Academic Year 2016-17. Employees must be able to work both Summer 2015 and Academic Year 2015-2016 to apply. 

SAAC Welcome Center Assistants will work from Wednesday, May 4, 2016 through Monday, May 8, 2017

Additionally, all employees must attend the following training sessions:

  • Thursday, May 5, 2016 -- 9:00am - 2:00pm
  • Friday, May 6, 2016 -- 9:00am - 5:00pm / Teambuilding Ropes Course
  • Saturday, May 7- May 9, 2016 -- must shadow 3 shifts during this time
  • CPR/AED training -- TBA (Summer 2016)

 

Remuneration

  • SAAC Welcome Center Assistants will be paid $8.50 per hour (before federal and state taxes) for hours worked during the academic school semester.
  • A furnished, private bedroom at Clairmont Campus will be provided during time of summer employment. This also includes utilities, internet, and cable. 
  • Welcome Center Assistants must work 15 hours per week during the summer. Three shifts plus a weekend rotation is required during the summer. Two shifts plus a weekend rotation is required during the academic year.
  • Parking is not included.

SAAC Pool Assistant

SAAC Swimming Pool Assistants report directly to the SAAC Associate Director and perform a variety of duties that assist in the operation of the SAAC. These important positions will challenge the abilities of those chosen and offer them valuable skills in communication, management, and organization. 

Pool Assistant hours are tentatively Monday through Sunday, 8:00am to 11:00am. Although weekly schedules will vary, SAAC Pool Assistants will work approximately 12-15 hours per week. Staff members must work together to cover all shifts on the weekly schedule, including weekend shifts. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

Facility Care:

  • Clean and maintain pools and pool deck.
    • Vacuuming, picking up trash, emptying skimmer baskets, and removing leaves.
    • Test and record chlorine and pH levels in the three SAAC pools on a daily basis.
    • Clean and straighten pool furniture.
  • Clean and maintain both outdoor and indoor facilities.
    • Clean upper and lower terraces.
    • Straighten terrace furniture.
    • Groom and sweep clay courts daily.
    • Empty building recycling or trash containers at the pool as needed.
    • Daily safety walk-through of outdoor and indoor facilities.
  • Report any defects or damages to equipment or facilities at the pool, including necessary routine repairs.
  • Work closely with the SAAC professional staff.

Customer Service:

  • Conduct all interactions professionally.
  • Be helpful, friendly, and willing to assist SAAC members in any way possible.
  • Assist in establishing and enforcing building policy.
  • Respond to emergencies and contact appropriate agnecies to assist.
  • Serve as a resource/referral person for SAAC members by responding to requests for information about our facilities and Emory.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

  • Must be an Emory student in good academic standing and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be able to commit to the entire summer.
  • Must possess a current, valid CPR training certificate.  You can take this class on your own or we will arrange for one at the beginning of the summer.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in summer temperatures.
  • Must be able to demonstrate attributes of both a team player and a leader.
  • Must possess an excellent customer service orientation.
  • Must be able to serve as a resource for and a positive representative of Emory University. 

Other Requirements:

  • Attend a mandatory orientation training session prior to working.
  • Attendance at training events is mandatory unless your absense is approved in advance by professional staff.

This is a SUMMER ONLY position.

Dates of employment for SAAC Pool Managers for Summer 2016 is from Wednesday, May 4, 2016 through Friday, August 14, 2016.
