P.E.A.C.E. (Political, Ethical, Academic, Community Experience) Living Learning Community

P.E.A.C.E (Political, Ethical, Academic Community Experience) Living Learning Community

Theme Description: The P.E.A.C.E Living Learning Community is located at the Clairmont Residential Center (CRC). It offers a unique residential opportunity that incorporates a Philosophy course taught by Dr. Huseyinzadegan (a.k.a. Dr. H). This course, PHIL 497R Independent Study (1-Credit), which will be offered in the Fall of 2019, deals with the question of political freedom, its history and its current relevance. Once selected for the P.E.A.C.E. Living Learning Community, residents will be automatically enrolled in PHIL 497R. In the Fall semester, Dr. H and the residents of P.E.A.C.E. Hall will meet once every two weeks (times/days to be determined according to residents’ schedules) to discuss short Philosophy texts, view films, and analyze current national and global events related to theme of political freedom. In the Spring semester, residents will also have a chance to engage in projects that aim to bring the intermingling of their own intellectual and socio-political commitments to the larger community at Emory. Events may include such things as field trips, informal dinners, invited speakers, and politically-engaged activities. This living learning community is designed to give its residents social and political literacy through a combined experience of an undergraduate Philosophy course and Clairmont residency. It aims to be fun and relaxed as well as creatively and intellectually fulfilling. Interest in social justice issues is a must; background in Philosophy is not required for applicants.

Who Can Apply? P.E.A.C.E. Living Learning Community is open ONLY to rising third- and fourth-year students at Emory (College, Business, Nursing, etc.), who will not be studying abroad for 2019-2020 Academic Year and will not be graduating in the Fall 2019.
