How It Works
-
Pack valuables and other important items to take home. This includes medications, travel documents, and electronic equipment you might need to have with you over break. Items you do not need can be left in the room over the break.
-
Remove all expiring items from your fridge. Empty contents in compost bins and recycle containers as recommended.
-
Lock all windows and close all blinds/window shades.
-
Please remove all trash and recycling from your room and sort into the nearest receptacles.
-
Before leaving, please ensure all lights have been turned off in your room/suite and your door is locked and secured.
- Set your thermostat to 68°, auto fan, heat. DO NOT SET TO “ON” as this will cause your air handler to run non-stop the entire break and will likely damage the system.
If you are not returning for Spring 2026:
-
Remove all personal belongings, dispose of trash and recyclables.
-
Set your thermostat to 68 degrees, auto, heat.
-
Close your windows and blinds. Clairmont Tower residents, please ensure your balcony doors are closed and secured.
-
Maintain a clear path to the HVAC unit in your room, with no obstructions in front of or beside the unit.
-
Turn off your lights, lock your door(s), completely fill out an Express Check-Out Envelope (ECOE) and read all the information on the back.
-
Lock your door and place key inside the ECOE.
-
Deposit the ECOE inside the Express Check-Out Box designated for your residence hall. (Locations can be found below. Clairmont Campus location is outside of the Clairmont Tower Service Center). You may also return the key to your respective service center during normal business hours. Failure to return your room key will result in a lock change charge.
-
A limited number of moving carts/bins are available in each area during the move-out period. Students are not permitted to store any belongings in the residence hall after they move out of their space. Any personal items left behind will be considered abandoned property and are subject to immediate disposal and potential charges.
-
All residents are responsible for returning the key(s) they were given by the Residence Life and Housing Operations staff. Housing Operations will not accept mailed-in keys or keys from a third party (parent/guardian, roommate/suitemate, friend) after the resident has moved out.
-
RAs will be checking apartments after residents have departed. All damage billing amounts may be appealed, however, improper checkout fees (i.e. keys not returned, items left behind, or checking out after the deadline) cannot be appealed.
-
If you have a vacancy in your apartment, or your roommate has moved out prior to your departure, please ensure that common areas are cleaned and organized to provide a welcoming environment to new residents. Custodians will be entering vacant and partially vacant apartments to prepare them for new residents moving-in for the spring semester and winter break housing.
